How to build a motivation playlist that actually works
Order matters as much as the songs.
A great playlist is a little race: a start, a build and a finish. Here’s how the events on this site are put together, so you can do the same with your own.
1. Open with intent
The first song sets the tone. Every event here opens with a song whose title says what you’re doing (Now or Never, Step Right Up, Trying Something New) and whose sound fits too.
2. Build, don’t blast
After the opener, songs rise in energy. Jumping straight to the most intense track leaves nowhere to go.
3. Keep the groove steady
For work, big changes in tempo pull your attention. Keep neighbouring songs close in pace.
4. Finish strong
End on one of the brightest songs, so stopping feels like crossing a line rather than running out of steam.

Questions
How long should a motivation playlist be?
As long as the task. The events here are 12 songs, about 35 to 45 minutes, a good length for one focused block or a workout.
Try it now: one song, one lap.
